A stronger justice system recognizes accountability, healing, rehabilitation, and the possibility of a second path forward.
Second Path Justice is an independent restorative justice project dedicated to helping create a more humane, informed, and rehabilitative justice system. SPJ provides accessible, evidence-based resources on restorative justice for attorneys, judges, policymakers, incarcerated individuals, people awaiting trial, and their families. Through education, awareness, and advocacy, SPJ promotes accountability, healing, mental health, rehabilitation, and meaningful second chances for people impacted by the justice system.
Second Path Justice exists to educate legal professionals, policymakers, and justice-impacted communities about restorative justice, mental health, accountability, rehabilitation, and the possibility of meaningful second chances.
Second Path Justice envisions a justice system that recognizes accountability, healing, and rehabilitation as essential parts of true justice. SPJ works toward a future where attorneys, judges, policymakers, incarcerated individuals, and communities are better informed about restorative justice, mental health, and second chances. Our vision is a system where people are not defined only by their worst mistakes, but are given meaningful opportunities to repair harm, rebuild their lives, and follow a second path forward.
My name is Maxine Forouzan, and I am a student at UC Berkeley with a strong passion for restorative justice, rehabilitation, mental health, and meaningful second chances. I founded Second Path Justice (SPJ) in 2025 as an independent project dedicated to educating legal professionals, policymakers, justice-impacted individuals, and communities about restorative justice practices. SPJ reflects my belief that justice should promote accountability while also creating space for healing, restoration, and a second path forward. Since starting SPJ, I have engaged in 50 plus conversations and professional settings involving elected officials, conferences, law firms, and justice-focused spaces to discuss how restorative justice can help reshape the future of our justice system. Through this project, I hope to support a more humane system where people are not defined solely by their worst mistakes, but are given meaningful opportunities to repair harm, rebuild their lives, and move forward.
